Basics of the self-publishing process

Ebooks and Print On Demand services have leveled the playing field for aspiring authors. Using free or inexpensive tools, anyone can organize a project to publish, get it edited, create a cover, and upload it to one of many marketplaces for distribution.

You no longer have to convince a publishing company to take a chance on you, sign away your rights to your creative work (for a slim percentage of any potential profits), for them to do a short print run, where your book might show up in your local bookstore a year later.

If you are ready to put in the work to create a professional product, spend time on the details, and work to market it, you can be live in a marketplace in a matter of days.

If you want to become acquainted with the self-publishing process and understand more of the steps involved, below you will find articles on the major steps in the project: writing, editing, creating, and publishing. Often when you set out to write your first book, you don’t realize that writing is only the first quarter of the effort you need to put in.

Let’s look at the effort involved in creating your own self-published book, then putting it up for sale in one (or more) of the many marketplaces.
